GARCIA BACKS TEAM
Roma manager Rudi Garcia has praised his team after they managed a 2-0 win over the local rivals Lazio to maintain the 100% start to the season. Roma have made a great start to the campaign after the arrival of several new players in this transfer window.
Even though they sold important players like Lamela, the arrival of players like Arsenal forward Gervinho has transformed the team totally and they now sit top of the table. The perfect start to the season was under threat due to the visit of local rivals Lazio to the Stadio Olimpico this weekend.
However, Roma did not budge one little bit and they continued the winning run with a 2-0 win. After the match, Garcia was in praise of his players for achieving this important victory. Even though they are in a position to win the Italian Serie A title, Garcia has managed to keep expectations low by stating to the media that the objective of the team still remains to finish in the top five. This is the best start made by Roma for 53 years. They are top of the table along with Napoli, who also have a perfect record.
Napoli and Juventus were expected to be the challengers for the title this season.
Garcia said after the match that Roma could have scored even more goals had it not been for poor finishing.
“It is pleasing to enter the club’s history but it is more important to make it to the end of the season. We have won five matches, three away from home and the merit goes to my players. I have a fantastic group [and they were] also very good tonight. I said nothing incorrect but I am here for more important things,” said Garcia to the Mediaset Premium.
