Italian clubs have once again showed their lack of patience
Italian clubs have once again showed their lack of patience after Roma parted company with Rudi Garcia.
Despite being only a few points from a Champions League qualification spot, the club have decided to take this action following a 1-1 draw with AC Milan. Garcia has been one of the longest serving managers in the Italian Serie A after having been in charge since 2013. During this period, he managed to transform Roma from being underdogs to regular Champions League qualifiers. There was even a brief period when the club was challenging with Juventus for the league title.
It appears that the Italian Serie A title is the ambition for Roma, who believe that they cannot achieve this ambition with Garcia in charge. The former Lille manager has been able to avoid defeats, but his biggest failing this season has been the lack of wins. Roma have been involved in too many draws already. It was only a few months ago when Roma where top of the table. They have since been overtaken by several teams like Inter Milan and Juventus. A run of four league matches without a win has contributed to his downfall. The search for a new manager begins immediately for the capital outfit, who are only two points ahead of Milan in the table.
“On behalf of myself and everyone at AS Roma, I’d like to thank Rudi García for all of his hard work since joining the club. We’ve all enjoyed some great moments during his time at Roma but we believe that this is the right time for a change,” said Roma’s president Jim Pallotta. Rumours are increasing about a return to the Stadio Olimpico for Luciano Spalletti. The club had a considerable decline during the period of Spalletti, but he now looks set for a second spell.
