Ranieri’s Problems Increase with Napoli Thumping Roma
As Roma’s defense was ripped by Napoli as they handed them a shameful defeat at Stadio Olimpico on Sunday in Serie A. This increased problems for Claudio Ranieri who has recently been appointed as the coach of the AS Roma.
Roma started with the game in 5th position. They have an opportunity to move 1 point close to AC Milan who was defeated by Sampdoria on Saturday. However, they were dropped to the 6th position after Atlanta secured a win at Parma and left them behind. It was Arkadiusz Milik who helped Napoli to stay ahead after 2 minutes as he prudently controlled the chipped pass by Simone Verdi with his heels and then rushed past Robin Olsen.
Napoli dominated in the first half of the game as the goal of Milik had been regarded as off-side. Thus, they had been pegged in the stopping time when Alex Meret, the goalkeeper fouled Patrik Schick and the penalty was taken by Diego Perotti. Still, Roma had been left to reel by 2 goals following the goal as they suffered the 2nd defeat after Ranieri took over as the manager.
“ The low cross by Jose Callejon had slipped under the hand of Olsen“. This left Dries Mertens with a tap-in towards the far post in the fiftieth minute. Thereafter, Fabian Ruiz rushed towards the left to set up Verdi for the 3rd goal only 5 minutes later. Amin Younes, the replacement added the 4th goal as he scored “at the 2nd attempt“when Roma failed to clear the corner.
Napoli stays in the 2nd position with 15 points behind Juventus, the leader who bears Empoli on Saturday. Milan is in the lowest position in the slots of Champions League having 51 points. They are followed by Atlanta with 48 points and Roma 47 points.
