ROMA FACE SASSUOLO TEST

AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho and his players would test their Serie A title credentials when they take on Sassuolo at home this weekend. Roma and Sassuolo will face each other in one of the round three games on Sunday as far as the new Italian Serie A season is concerned.

Roma are one of five teams with a perfect start to the new Italian Serie A season after two games. The capital club amassed six points from the first two matches of the this season alongside city rivals Lazio, defending champions Inter Milan, Napoli and AC Milan.

AS Roma are third on the league table heading into the third round of Serie A matches in the new season. They are behind the duo of leaders Lazio and Inter Milan by virtue of goal difference and alphabetical order respectively. Lazio have a better goal difference than Jose Mourinho’s team, while Inter Milan have the same points, goal scored and goal against. Roma and Inter are separated on the Italian Serie A log at the moment by alphabet since they have the same stats.
Mourinho started the new season at AS Roma having been appointed as their new manager in the summer. He began the new league season with an impressive 3-1 win over Fiorentina at home. French midfielder Jordan Veretout scored twice to propel the capital club to victory at the expense of the team from Florence. Ex-Arsenal playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored the other goal for Roma, while the lone goal for Fiorentina was scored by Serbian defender Nikola Milenkovic. Both Roma and Fiorentina finished the game with ten men.
In their second league game this season, Jose Mourinho and his players thrashed newly promoted team Salernitana 4-0 away from home. Italian international Lorenzo Pellegrini scored a brace during the game in addition to further goals from summer signing Tammy Abraham and the aforementioned Veretout.
